Course Overview

Grow: Building Safe and Healthy Futures is a supportive and engaging programme designed for adult learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

The course focuses on developing practical life skills that promote confidence, independence, and healthy living. Through hands-on activities and real-world learning experiences, participants will build the knowledge and abilities they need to make positive choices in their daily lives.

Topics may include:

  • Learn practical skills for cooking and preparing simple, healthy meals
  • Understand the basics of healthy eating and nutrition
  • Develop confidence in shopping, food planning, and money management
  • Build independence through everyday tasks that support a safe and healthy lifestyle
  • Strengthen communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills in a supportive environment.

By the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  • Prepare simple meals safely and independently
  • Make healthier food choices with confidence
  • Plan shopping lists and navigate shops effectively
  • Understand and apply basic budgeting skills
  • Demonstrate improved independence and decision-making in everyday life.

Assessment Methods

RARPA is used throughout this programme. Evidence of progress towards individualised targets will be collated throughout the year, and reviewed each half term with learners.

Progression Options

Learners will be supported to progress onto other adult programmes in the future, to continue to develop independence, social skills and wellbeing.

Entry Requirements

This course is designed for Foundation Learning students with identified learning needs. Suitability for enrolment will be assessed and discussed during the interview process.
