Course Overview

This programme is for learners who are undecided about their future and require a supportive first step into further education. It is a one year programme that aims to support your Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) as well as academic attainment.

The programme will give you the opportunity to develop skills in a variety of vocational areas. You will also undertake a work placement and/or a group work experience to give you experience of the working environment and a valuable addition to your CV. Throughout your vocational tasters you will be supported to develop transferable skills, employability skills and personal and social skills. You will be encouraged to develop responsibility for your own learning and progress towards your aspirations.

Your timetable will be split between English and maths, pastoral sessions and vocational subjects which are practical to support your decisions around next steps and aspirations.

  • Sport and Public Services
  • Hairdressing/Beauty Therapy
  • Creative Arts
  • Health and Social Care.

Assessment Methods

Following an initial assessment to establish your starting point, you will set targets for your development and be assessed throughout.

Assessment is through a portfolio of evidence including photographs, practical and written work. Staff also observe you in lessons and on work experience (where appropriate).

Your progress will be monitored using personalised targets through a learner journey. If not already achieved, you will be entered into of English and/or maths qualifications at the appropriate level, Functional Skills or GCSE. You will attend English and maths lessons every week and complete an exam at the suitable time of the year.

Progression Options

On completion of the programme, you can apply to study a Level 1 or 2 course, seek employment or apply for an Apprenticeship or Traineeship to support you into employment.

Entry Requirements

You need to be working to at least Entry Level 2 for English and maths and have a positive attitude to learning. You will demonstrate the motivation and commitment to undertake and attend a full-time course.

You will have an interest in progressing on to higher level study or employment. Entry is also subject to a successful interview, initial assessment and induction.
