Course Overview

This study programme is for students who are interested in developing the specific technical and professional skills that can lead to meaningful employment in the plumbing and heating industry. You will study theoretical aspects of plumbing and apply them to practical tasks in a wide range of industry areas.

Topics may include:

  • Domestic central heating systems planning and design
  • Principles and requirements of environmental technology systems
  • Domestic sanitation system installation, commissioning, service, and maintenance techniques
  • Hot and cold-water systems planning and design.

Assessment Methods

Our dedicated plumbing practical training environment is enhanced with classrooms and computer facilities that provides students with a great opportunity to develop their plumbing skills and knowledge.

Assessment of this qualification is by an externally set synoptic practical assignment and written examination. Both aspects of the assessment need to be achieved and contribute to an overall pass, merit, or distinction final grade.

Progression Options

Successful completion of this qualification can support progression onto a Plumbing apprenticeship, typically as a Plumbing and Heating Engineer or Domestic Heating installer.

Apprenticeships are subject to securing employment in the electrical trade.

Entry Requirements

You need five GCSEs in the 9 to 4 range, including English, maths and science, plus completion of a recognised Level 2 plumbing qualification. Acceptance on this programme is subject to a successful interview.
