Course Overview

This qualification is designed for those looking to progress from gym instruction into a career in personal training. It will develop your knowledge, skills, and confidence to work with clients on a one-to-one or small group basis, supporting them in achieving their health, fitness, and lifestyle goals.

Personal trainers play a key role in improving the health of the nation, helping more people become active, more often. This course has been developed in partnership with employers to ensure it reflects the demands of the industry and prepares you for real-world practice.

Throughout the programme, you will gain the skills to design and deliver safe and effective exercise programmes, provide nutritional guidance, and support clients with positive lifestyle management. In addition, the course equips you with essential business knowledge, including finance, sales, and marketing, enabling you to build and maintain a successful personal training career.

Assesment Methods

Assessment is through knowledge assessments, case studies, assignments, observations, and eLearning modules.

Progression Options

On successful completion, you could progress to a Sports Massage Therapy Diploma, an apprenticeship in Personal Training, or a Level 4 certificate in Strength and Conditioning with University Centre Somerset.

Entry Requirements

You will need a suitable Level 2 qualification in Gym Instructing. This course requires physical exertion and individual participation is essential, therefore a degree of physical fitness is necessary.

There is an element of communication (discussing, presenting, reading, and writing) involved, and learners should have basic skills in communication pitched at Level 2.
