Course Overview

The NEBOSH General Certificate is a fantastic qualification for managers, supervisors and anyone with health and safety responsibilities. It is suitable for every industry, from workshops to offices, and is also a great steppingstone for anyone starting their health and safety career.

The NEBOSH qualification is globally recognised and seen as the gold standard in health and safety training. The course will help to develop your health and safety knowledge and give you the skills to conduct suitable and sufficient risk assessments in your work environment. When choosing the NEBOSH General Certificate you are demonstrating your commitment to a high standard of health and safety, which will not only help with your internal health and safety requirements, but it will also demonstrate to perspective customers or employers your commitment to health and safety.

Units of study/what is involved The qualification is made up of two units:

GNC1

  • Why we should manage workplace health and safety
  • How health and safety management systems work and what they look like
  • Managing risk – understanding people and process
  • Health and safety monitoring and measuring

GNC2

  • Physical and psychological health
  • Musculoskeletal health
  • Chemical and biological agents
  • General workplace issues
  • Work equipment
  • Fire
  • Electricity

Assessment Methods

Teaching will be face-to-face in the classroom

or

As a virtual classroom via Microsoft Teams.

The assessment for the qualification is split in two:

  • Unit 1 (NG1) is assessed using an Open Book Examination (more information about the OBE can be found here: www.nebosh.org.uk/digital-assessments/certificate).
  • Unit 2 (NG2) is assessed by the completion of a risk assessment
  • Progression Options

    One of the next steps after the NEBOSH General certificate is onto one of the other specialisist certificate qualifications, which include construction, fire and environment.

    If you wish to gain a higher level qualification you have the option of the NEBOSH Diploma for Occupational Health and Safety Management Professionals and after this you can progress onto the NEBOSH Master of Science degree.

    Entry Requirements

    There are no formal entry requirements, although as the exam is in English there is a minimum requirement of International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.0 in the IELTS tests.
