Course Overview

This challenging and exciting course focuses on the Hairdressing sector and has been designed to provide the best readiness for this creative industry. The programme runs over one year and consists of both practical and theoretical knowledge of hairdressing, focusing on the extensive knowledge and skills you will need to work and thrive in employment.

You will gain experience working in a realistic environment created within the College’s salons and be able to provide services to members of the public and other paying clients.

Over the one-year period, you will build your knowledge and skills developed at Level 2 alongside demonstrating your competency ready for industry. You will also complete work experience.

This qualification includes a mixture of classroom and salon learning, client workshops, and work experience.

Topics may include:

  • Development of advanced cutting and colouring techniques
  • Client consultation
  • Development and enhancement of creative hairdressing skills
  • Styling and dressing long hair
  • Colour correction
  • Advanced perming.

Assessment Methods

You will be assessed through online exams and practical competency assessments.

Progression Options

On successful completion, you could find employment in a hairdressing salon, day spa, cruise liner, another country, or your own salon.

Alternatively, you could progress into work in the film industry or with industry product developers.

Entry Requirements

You need five GCSEs in the 9 to 3 range, including English and maths, and to have completed a Level 2 in Hairdressing qualification with a merit profile. Entry is subject to a successful interview and induction.

You will need to demonstrate passion and interest in the hair sector as well as a positive and professional attitude to learning.
