Course Overview

Fashion & Textiles A Level is a dynamic and intellectually engaging course that explores the creative and conceptual possibilities of material-based design. You’ll investigate the many ways fashion and textiles influence culture and identity, while building the technical and academic skills needed for success in the creative industries.

This course challenges you to think critically, research independently, and respond to contemporary themes through innovative textile and fashion outcomes. You’ll work from both set and self-directed briefs, developing your skills in creative problem-solving, design thinking, and contextual analysis.

Through hands-on workshops and guided experimentation, you’ll explore a wide range of techniques and processes, from pattern cutting and garment construction to surface design, illustration, and fabric manipulation. Alongside this, you’ll be encouraged to reflect on your work, connect it to broader cultural and historical contexts, and present it in professional and engaging ways.

Topics may include:

  • Fashion design and illustration
  • Pattern cutting and garment construction
  • Surface pattern design
  • Knitting, weaving, and felt-making
  • Contextual research and analysis

A materials and studio fee is payable on enrolment. Additional costs may apply for specialist materials and optional residential trips, which can be paid via the College’s online store.
