Course Overview

Please note: you will make your selection of three A Levels once you have progressed into the application process.

This A Level course offers an immersive journey into the intricate web of interactions between the natural world and human society. From understanding ecosystems to grappling with pressing environmental challenges, students will engage in scientific inquiry and critical analysis to become stewards of our planet’s future.

The topics studied cover many aspects of the world around us, including conservation methods, land-use conflict, global climate change, pollution, energy resources, sustainable biological resources, evolution, biotechnology and ecosystems, and population dynamics – a fantastic array of topics so that everyone will find an area that interests them. It is also very contextualised to relate it to how the world works around you.

There may also be an opportunity to take part in an international residental, which in the past have included destinations such as Italy, Iceland and Costa Rica. This subject works particularly well, but not exclusively, alongside Geography, Biology, Chemistry, and Maths.

Assessment Methods

You will be assessed through 2 three-hour written examinations at the end of the course, comprising of a combination of multiple choice, short answer, and extended writing questions.

There will be regular internal assessments taking place as the course unfolds. You are also required to participate in field trips as part of this course.

This courses helps prepare you for both higher education and careers in environmental science, ecology, conservation biology, environmental policy, sustainable development, and related fields.

Entry Requirements

Five GCSEs in the 9 to 4 range, including a 5 in maths and Biology.
