The overall duration of this apprenticeship programme is 18 months. You will be required to attend college two days a week in your first year on programme. The final six months is work-based learning and assessment.

This Apprenticeship standard is designed for individuals who are eager to kick-start their career in engineering. Whether you’re fascinated by maintenance, mechanical manufacturing, electrical and electronic systems, or fabrication, our apprenticeship offers a dynamic pathway to hands-on learning and skill development.

Units of study/what is involved

L2 Certificate in knowledge:

  • Environmental awareness
  • Engineering Techniques
  • Engineering mathematics and science principles
  • Business improvement techniques

L2 Diploma in skills:

  • Health and safety
  • Working effectively in Engineering
  • Interpreting Engineering data and documentation
  • Conducting business improvement activities
  • Maintaining mechanical devices and equipment
  • Maintaining electrical equipment and systems
  • Welding/fabrication

Assessment Methods

There are no exams. Your knowledge and skills are assessed throughout the year and you will have to demonstrate that you can meet the required standards throughout your training.

Progression Options

Apprentices may progress to enrol onto one of our Level 3 Apprenticeship programmes such as Engineering Fitter or secure full-time employment in the fields of maintenance and fabrication/welding.

Entry Requirements

Whilst GCSE 4 in English and maths is an advantage, you can work towards L1 Functional skills English and maths whilst on programme if required.
