Course Overview

This study programme is for students who are interested in developing the specific technical and professional skills that can lead to meaningful employment in the electrotechnical industry. You will study theoretical aspects of electrical installation and apply them to practical tasks in a wide range of industry areas.

Topics may include:

  • Principles of electrical science
  • Inspection and testing
  • Electrical system diagnosis.

Assessment Methods

Our dedicated electrotechnical practical training environment is enhanced with classrooms and computer facilities that provides students with a great opportunity to develop their electrical skills and knowledge.

Assessment of this qualification is by an externally set synoptic practical assignment and written examination. Both aspects of the assessment need to be achieved and contribute to an overall pass, merit, or distinction final grade.

Progression Options

On successful completion of this qualification, you could seek progression to an electrical apprenticeship, typically as an installation electrician or maintenance electrician.

Apprenticeships are subject to securing employment in the electrical trade.

Entry Requirements

You need five GCSEs in the 9 to 4 range, including English, maths, and science. Completion of a recognised Level 2 electrical qualification is essential. Acceptance on this programme is subject to a successful interview.
