Course Overview

If you’re curious about how the digital world really works – from the networks that keeps businesses running to the cybersecurity systems that protect them from attack – this T Level could be your perfect next step.

While areas like software development are rapidly changing with the rise of AI, businesses will always need skilled professionals to build, manage and protect the digital infrastructure they depend on every day. Networks need designing, servers need maintaining, systems need securing and organisations need experts who can keep everything running safely and efficiently.

This two-year course includes a mixture of classroom learning and on-the-job experience, during an industry placement of at least 45 days. You’ll gain the technical knowledge and practical skills needed for highly skilled employment, apprenticeships or progression to university.

You will learn how to build, support and maintain hardware and networking systems, understand how businesses use technology and develop confidence to solve real-world digital problems. You’ll get access to Cisco NetAcad, where you can access additional professional courses, develop hands-on networking skills using Cisco Packet Tracer and build industry knowledge using the same tools trusted by IT professionals worldwide.

Topics may include:

  • Problem solving
  • Digital infrastructure
  • Digital environments
  • Cybersecurity
  • Data analysis
  • Hardware
  • Project planning
  • Legislation and ethics.

Assessment Methods

You will be assessed through a series of externally set exams including occupational specialisms, core competencies, an employer set project and evidence of a minimum of 45 days industry placement. Each assessment contributes to an overall Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction* grade.

T Levels are worth UCAS points, equivalent to three A Levels.

Progression Options

On successful completion of this technical qualification, you can continue to study a Higher or Degree apprenticeship, progress onto university or go directly into skilled employment within the digital/IT sector.

This qualification lends itself to those who are looking for a career in roles such as a Network Engineer, Cybersecurity Engineer, Penetration Tester, SOC Analyst, Cloud Support Technician, Server and Systems Administrator, IT Support Technician and more.

Entry Requirements

You will need five GCSEs in the 9 to 4 range, including English and maths. You do not need to have studied GCSE Computer Science to be eligible for this course but you should have a keen interest in the topic.

If you have not achieved the required grades to start a T Level, you could complete the T Level Foundation year designed to provide you with the knowledge, skills and behaviours to successfully progress onto the T Level.

Entry is subject to a successful interview.
