Construction Support Technicians are found in and throughout the construction and built environment sector, including construction contracting and associated supply chain subcontractors. Construction Contracting Operations Technicians operate in a range of settings including estimating, planning, buying, site, quantity surveying and design and build roles. Site and office environments include industrial, commercial, residential, refurbishment, heritage, retail and public sector projects.

They may be employed by large contracting organisations such as major national housebuilding contractors and civil engineering contractors, as well as a significant number of small and medium sized contractors and subcontractors such as building services companies, insulation contractors, groundworkers, roofing companies, plasterers and decorators together with a host of other specialised construction areas.

Assessment Methods

On-programme you will complete training to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs) of the occupational standard. You will be assessed on these via multiple choice tests, written assessments, site observations and other relevant workplace evidence.

The College will provide an Assessor who will visit you in your workplace and support and assess how you are progressing. You will also be provided with a Learning Coach to oversee your training and visit you at least once every three months to review your progress and help you with any problems you might have.

For the End Point Assessment (EPA) you will be assessed via:

  • Technical report project with question and answer session
  • Professional interview with a portfolio of evidence

Progression Options

On successful completion of your apprenticeship, you could progress on to Higher Education (subject to meeting the relevant institutions entry requirements) to study Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Design and Build, Site Supervision or Civil Engineering.

Entry Requirements

You need GCSEs in the 9 to 4 (A* to C) range in maths and English. Entry is also subject to an initial assessment at college.
