Course Overview

This course is designed to support learner progression into the exciting and diverse worlds of computing and business. Learners will develop a blend of technical, creative and enterprise skills suited to a wide range of future pathways. Learners will engage with practical, hands-on activities that build confidence, problem-solving ability and industry-relevant knowledge.

This programme aims to:

  • Develop core knowledge and skills in computing, digital technologies and business concepts
  • Introduce learners to the full entrepreneurial process, from idea generation to pitching
  • Build confidence in communication, planning, problem-solving and teamwork
  • Prepare learners for progression to Level 2 programmes, apprenticeships or entry-level employment
  • Ensure learners continue to develop essential English and Maths skills where required.

Topics may include:

  • Digital technologies, including installing software, computer systems, and coding
  • Entrepreneurship: Learners will follow the full entrepreneurial journey through a Dragons’ Den-style project. They will generate a business idea, research the market, produce promotional materials, plan finances, develop a full business plan and deliver a professional pitch to a panel of professionals.

Learners are required to complete 30 hours of mandatory work experience as part of the course.

Assessment Methods

The BTCC Level 1 Business & Digital Enterprise qualification is assessed through a range of assessments will be used throughout the programme, including:

  • Practical assessments such as coding tasks and software installation
  • Roleplays and presentations
  • Entrepreneurship pitch to a panel of professionals
  • Coursework and research-based assignments.

Progression Options

Following successful completion of the course at Pass grade, and completion of both maths and English qualifications at grade 4 GCSE you will have the opportunity to progress to:

  • Level 2 Certificate in Business
  • Level 2 T Level Foundation Programme in Computing & Digital
  • Entry-level employment in the computing, business or IT sector
  • Digital & Technology apprenticeships
  • Start a small business.

Entry Requirements

Learners will need four GCSEs in the 9 to 2 range with grade 2 in English and Maths, and a keen interest in the topic. Learners who have achieved below grade 4 in English or Maths will continue these subjects as part of their study programme. Entry is subject to a successful interview.
