Course Overview

The Auto-care Technician apprenticeship is ideal if you are going to gain future employment carrying out a range of services and repairs to cars, car derived vans and light goods vehicles, working in an automotive workshop, which may be part of a national chain or operated by a regional/local independent group/owner. An Auto-care Technician requires a unique combination of technical, retail and customer service skills. You will use a range of tools, measuring and diagnostic equipment to identify & repair simple system faults.

AS an Auto-care Technician you will be able to demonstrate expertise not only in the technical elements of your role, but also have a good grasp of the practical and theoretical aspects of the vehicle systems you service, you will develop excellent telephone, customer handling (including how to handle difficult customers and deal with customer disappointment) and effective sales skills, as well as strong problem solving and self-organisation skills. You will develop skills which ensure you are a valuable team member operating independently, understanding how your facility operates from a commercial perspective and how your actions contribute to business results, whilst maintaining a high standard of workmanship.

You will attend on a block release basis, studying in the classroom and via distance learning online content. You will also develop your practical skills in our high quality workshops.

You will work with your mentor on site at your place of work and with college staff to develop your knowledge, skills and behaviours to lead you seamlessly to your end point assessment.

Duration

1 week block – Monday 13.15 start – Friday 12.15 finish, 12 blocks per year for the 24 months (not including EPA)

Entry Requirements

Entry requirement is dependent on the employer, but usually will require maths and English GCSEs at Grade 2 or higher. The successful candidate will also need to complete a diagnostic assessment, which will help us plan the appropriate support required to meet your individual needs.
