Course Overview

This dynamic and engaging course is designed for students with a strong interest in art and design and offers exploration across a wide range of creative disciplines. Students develop a strong foundation in fine art drawing and painting while exploring printmaking, photography, fashion and textiles, and 2D, 3D and 4D media such as sculpture, installation, video, animation, and performance.

Across the two years, students build core creative and technical skills through practical, studio-based learning before specialising in a chosen area of interest. Supported by dedicated studios and workshops and specialist staff, students refine their personal creative direction and produce a high-quality portfolio to support progression.

Work is informed by the study of historical and contemporary artists and designers, with an emphasis on visual research, experimentation, and reflective practice. Students present their work through public exhibitions, including local gallery shows and the college’s annual end-of-year exhibition.

Enrichment opportunities include visits to museums and galleries, alongside work placements, live briefs, and professional practice activities. These experiences prepare students for progression to higher education or careers within the creative industries.

Topics may include:

  • Visual language (art history and theory)
  • Drawing and painting
  • Sculpture and 3D practices
  • Photography and printmaking
  • Fashion and textiles
  • Digital art
  • Live briefs and professional practice
  • Reflective practice and independent enquiry.
