Course Overview
The Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge) is the technical knowledge qualification that supports individuals working in manufacturing and engineering roles, including Welder/Fabricator occupations.
It develops the underpinning theory required to work safely, effectively, and competently within an engineering environment. This diploma covers Health and Safety in the Engineering Workplace, Communication and Teamwork in Engineering Applied Science and Mathematics for Engineering.
Topics may include:
- Principles of welding processes
- Engineering materials
- Engineering drawing
- Quality assurance and inspection requirements
- Engineering calculations and measurements
- Safe working practices and relevant legislation.
Please note: there is a £1,250 one-off cost (pathway specific).
Assessment Methods
Assessment is through a mix of both written assignments and observations.
Learners will submit assessments through One File for review and feedback. At least one observation in practice will take place during the programme, to gather any workplace specific supporting evidence to showcase their application of knowledge.
Progression Options
You could progress to higher technical qualifications such as HNC/HND Engineering, welder/fabricator roles, advanced manufacturing and fabrication positions, or other Engineering technician career pathways.
Entry Requirements
You will need GCSEs in English and maths at a minimum grade 4, or alternatively English and maths functional skills at Level 2.

The Student Experience Team can mentor and signpost students who are struggling with a range of issues that are negatively impacting their day-to-day life. The Student Experience Team works closely with the Safeguarding & Lifestyle Teams to promote proactive wellbeing enrichment sessions. The team can refer on to counselling when appropriate.
