I’ve always loved being creative, and this course allows me to explore that every day. One of my favourite parts of the course is applying prosthetics and learning new techniques. I really enjoy the process: starting from an idea and building it step by step until it looks completely realistic. It’s such a rewarding feeling to see how much my work has developed over time.

One of my most memorable projects was based on nature, where I turned my friend into a tree! It was quite a challenge, especially when it came to applying the bald cap, but it was so satisfying to see it all come together in the end. Projects like this have helped me grow in confidence, not just in my make-up skills, but also in my ability to take on something new and see it through.

College life is very different from school. It feels much freer and more independent, which I really like. I prefer being able to focus on one subject that I’m passionate about rather than lots of different ones. Our class feels like a close group of friends, which makes learning even more enjoyable.

In my first year, I completed a week of work experience at the Brewhouse Theatre, helping with make-up for the pantomime Dick Whittington. It was such a great opportunity to see how fast-paced and collaborative working backstage can be. I learned how important teamwork and quick thinking are, especially when something needs fixing in the middle of a live show!

The facilities here are amazing. Our make-up room is set up just like a real industry environment, with a wide range of professional equipment. It’s a great way to prepare for working in the real world, and our lecturers are incredibly supportive. When I first started, I felt a bit clueless, but now I’m confident using all the tools and techniques thanks to their guidance.

I’ve also learned skills like wig making, which can make a real difference to people, especially those who need wigs due to illness. Being able to help someone feel more confident through your work is such a great feeling.

In the future, I’d love to work behind the scenes in TV or film, possibly focusing on prosthetics. It’s the area I enjoy the most, and this course has given me the skills, experience, and confidence to take that next step toward my dream career.
