AIMEE

Hi, I’m Aimee, and I’m studying T Level Nursing. One of the things I really enjoy about this course is the placement opportunities. It’s been a valuable experience that has taught me so much. I’ve been on a few placements, including a day in the life of a nurse on a ward, which gave me really good insight into daily hospital life. Seeing how things work in real-time has been very helpful.

During my placement, I’ve developed many skills, especially communication. Working with people with different abilities, including dementia and learning disabilities, has taught me how to adapt my communication methods to suit each individual. It’s made me more confident in talking to people and understanding their needs.

I’ve wanted to go into nursing since I was young, specifically paediatrics. When this course came up, I saw it as the perfect opportunity to start that journey, and I’ve never changed my mind. My long-term goal is to do degree apprenticeships at Musgrove Park Hospital, starting as a Healthcare Assistant and working my way up to nursing and eventually working in a paediatric ward.

The facilities at college, especially the ward area, are very realistic. The environment closely resembles a hospital ward, and we can practice on each other with the equipment, which helps build our skills for real-life situations. Being able to do placements at Musgrove is fantastic because it’s so close, and everyone there is very welcoming. The college works hard to ensure we’re placed in settings that match our interests and goals, which makes the experience even more valuable.

We’ve also had plenty of support from industry professionals. Before our placements, we attended a ‘Prepare to Care’ week, where people from Musgrove came in to talk to us, teach us about manual handling, and show us what to expect. That preparation has been crucial in building our confidence.

Since starting college, I’ve become much better at communicating with friends, staff, and patients. The skills I’ve learned and experiences I’ve gained have truly helped me grow, and I feel more confident than I ever thought I would. This course has given me the perfect foundation for my future in healthcare.
