The team at CETEC, the Clean Energy Technical Excellence College, welcomed a delegation from Sweden to the South West this week. Representatives from several Swedish municipalities visited to learn from the experience of Hinkley Point C and explore the skills, education and socio-economic legacy being developed alongside the project.
With Sweden considering future nuclear investment decisions, discussions focused on the workforce challenges and opportunities associated with large-scale infrastructure projects. Delegates heard about the importance of a strong skills pipeline and collaboration between further education colleges, training providers, industry and government to prepare the workforce needed for future energy projects.
The team shared its experience of supporting workforce development for a major new nuclear programme, alongside its vision for the college as a hub for sharing knowledge and expertise. This work supports the UK’s ambition to accelerate the transition to net zero and develop the skills needed for clean energy.
The visit also provided an opportunity to discuss how investment in education and skills can contribute to lasting socio-economic benefits for communities. CETEC looks forward to continuing its international partnerships and contributing to discussions that will help shape the next generation of clean energy projects across Europe.
“It’s fantastic to have the opportunity to share what we’ve learned. This visit shows the power of a collaborative approach: by exchanging ideas and experience, we can learn from one another, find innovative ways of working and accelerate progress together.”
